Here we have a fully serviced brass mantel clock by J.W. Benson, circa 1971.

The case is brass, with brown marble columns to the four corners. Originally some features would have been silver plated (you can still see some of the remnants of the plating) but this has   been polished off over the years.  The case has been polished to a high shine and then lacquered to maintain the lustre. There are a couple of cracked columns, but these have been placed to the rear of the case, so as not to distract from this beautiful clock.

The movement has been fully stripped, cleaned and serviced and keeps good time, although some minor adjustment will be needed once it reaches its final resting place. A replacement pendulum has been fitted.

The face or dial has been replaced with a white dial, due to the condition of the original dial, the clock will come with the original dial if you want to have it restored.

Strikes on the hour and half hour, via a cute little bell.

The case is stamped J.W. Benson, 25 Old Bond Street, London. This gives me a very accurate way of dating the clock, as I found the following on Wikipedia:

”Throughout its history, J. W. Benson Ltd was official watchmaker to the Admiralty & the War Department and also held a number of royal warrants, being watchmakers to Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, the Tsar of Russia and several other royal families.
