Badische Uhrenfabrik A. G. Furtwangen from the Black Forest in Germany, were a clock factory for mantel, wall & hall clocks; they produced wholesale and retail of clock parts and movements. Registered 12-16-1890. founded by Adam Fehrenbach 1860-1877, Carl Rombach merged with Uhrenfabrik Furtwangen AG with branch in London (1866, Milan, Zuerich and Hong Kong. 1906, 700 employees, closed after 1918, resumed production 1927, closed after 1945.

This clock dates from 1899, and was a trade sample for the UK market, the chime mechanism is quite unusual, which took quite a while to get working again, as clock go this is probably quite a historical piece.

The movement has been fully stripped, inspected, cleaned and overhauled, it is now back to working again as it did when it left the factory. The chime is a deep bong showing the quality of the gongs of that era.

There is a leaver on the right hand side of the movement, to re-set the chime if it gets out of sync (this could be caused by the chime running down until it stops.

The oak case has also been restored, with new brass bun feet, French polish and wax, the bezel has also been polished and lacquered.
